C06 WOLF BEHAVIOUR AND ECOLOGY
An Advanced Award in wolf behaviour and ecology, and his relationship with man.

This nine month course is by correspondence and has an optional day seminar at the Wolf Conservation Trust in Berkshire. The optional day is not assessed and does not form part of the final accreditation.

It is aimed at anyone who is genuinely interested in learning more about wolves, their habitat, survival, pack structure and conservation efforts.

Successful students automatically fulfil the qualification requirements for the CDP COAPE Diploma Course.

What the student will learn
Unit 1:
Facts and fiction. Global distribution of wolves. Folklore and myths. Wild and captive wolves.
Unit 2:
Survival Behaviour. Prey and predators. Pack and reproductive behaviour. Territorial behaviour.
Unit 3:
Life in a pack. The breeding pair(s). Feeding. Weaning and caring of puppies. Competition within the pack.
Unit 4:
Friend or Foe. Conservation and education. Livestock and wolves. Protection.
Unit 5:
Yellowstone Park. The ecosystem. Re-introduction of wolves into the wild.
Unit 6:
The successful wolf. Trainable or tamable? Humans and wolves. Humans and dogs. The juvenile wolf. Breeding.

Course Details

Course Type:
Correspondence plus optional day seminar at the Wolf Conservation Trust in Berkshire.
Course Format:
Each Unit of the course notes is e-Mailed out to students as a separate e-Book. Students also have access to the COAPE Student Resource Centre where additional support and course material are available online.
Course Duration:
Nine months with two runs per year:
1: February 1st to October 31st.
2: September 1st to May 31st the following year.
Course Cost:
OCN registration deposit £45 + Course fee £395 + £20 refreshments paid on day.
Day seminar is charged extra and to be announced shortly.
