Written and tutored by leading canine behaviourists from COAPE, Val Strong and Peter Neville, this course is primarily designed for anyone who is thinking of adopting a new puppy or adult dog of any age, pedigree or crossbreed, from an animal welfare centre. Through coursework assessment at each of the six stages, You and Your Rescue Dog enables young or inexperienced dog owners to achieve an accredited level of qualification in canine behaviour, training, nutrition and care. It will enable students to demonstrate their knowledge, integrity and commitment to owning a dog to any animal welfare centre where they are hoping to acquire their dog or puppy. The course can be completed in a minimum of 6 weeks if necessary, and is independently accredited by the Open College Network at Foundation Award level. |

What the student will learn |
Topics covered will include choosing a pup/dog, preparing for your dog (puppy) at home and with your family, bringing your dog home and settling him in, providing necessary care facilities, house training and identification, nutrition and feeding, understanding the needs (and sometimes special needs) of rescue dogs, training and management, medical care and disease prevention, insurance, common behaviour problems and how to prevent them. |
